AED's: Tools and Training to Save Lives!

The Power to Change the Future

Imagine yourself witnessing a loved one having a cardiac arrest.  What would you give for the power to save their life?  What would you give to save the life of your spouse, your parent, your neighbor, or your co-worker?  An AED (automated external defibrillator) can transform you from a helpless bystander into a lifesaver.

The Odds of Survival - 5% vs. 70%
  • The Grim Reality: Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is one of the leading causes of death in the United States. SCA can happen anywhere, to anyone, at any time, without symptoms and regardless of age or general health.  It strikes more than 200,000 Americans each year—nearly one death every two minutes.
  • The Power to Save Life: In the event of a cardiac arrest, health and safety figures reveal that the survival rate is 5% if no AED is administered.  The chance of survival jumps to 70% if an AED is administered within 5 minutes of onset.

How Does an AED Work?
AED stands for Automated External Defibrillator.  It is a small portable device that analyzes the heart rhythm of a person who is in cardiac arrest. Based on the analysis, the AED may administer a series of shocks intended to convert the person's heart rhythm back to normal, greatly increasing their chance of survival.

For Home and Office

It is important to be prepared and have access to an AED both at home and in the office.  Parents will want to have an AED at their home to ensure the safety of their family.  Business leaders will want to provide the tools and training to empower employees to take action—and save lives—in an emergency.  As an employee, you will want to see if your employer has this important safety measure covered.

The Red Cross Will Train You

When purchasing an AED, you must also receive the training to use the device properly.  In addition to providing AED products, the Red Cross is a leading resource for AED training.  Our veteran Health & Safety staff can provide you or your employees will all the tools required to save a life using your AED.
