Planning and Response Specialist, Emergency Services Department

Reports to: Regional Emergency Services Officer

Under the general direction of the Regional Emergency Services Officer, coordinates logistics function for the Chapter’s emergency services programs.

Duties/Essential Functions:

  • Manages facilities and facility agreements for disaster response, including shelters, shelter agreements, and shelter surveys, warehousing space, and warehousing agreements.
  • Manages the supply inventory for response and preparedness programs.
  • Coordinates with accounting on procurement and inventory management.
  • Is certified to teach disaster trainings courses
  • Manages emergency services fleet.
  • Coordinates safety and security function in emergency services
  • Manages Armed Forces Emergency Services contract
  • Assist in the development and completion of Chapter Disaster Response Plans
  • Serves as staff support to Mass Care and Logistics volunteer teams and to volunteer presenters.
  • Serves as primary back-up to the client services and material support
  • Assist with the Chapter’s participation in National Response Call Network Program.

Work Requirements/Qualifications: Bachelor degree or equivalent experience. Minimum of one-year experience in disaster preparedness and response.

Office hours Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 4:45 pm, with the availability to work early morning, late evening, weekends, and holidays. Available for on call duty. Smoke-free environment.

Reports to:
Marketing and Communications Coordinator

Primary Role: Meets online communications needs of Nashville Area Chapter, as assigned by Communications Director, with focus on strategic expansion of Nashville Area Red Cross web presence.

Physical Aspects/Working Environment/Hours: Eight Hours per week. Office hours Monday-Friday 9:00 A.M. - 6 P.M. Smoke-free working environment.

AmeriCorp VISTA : Red Cross Ready Tennessee

In Tennessee, volunteers at 17 Red Cross chapters provide services to residents of 95 counties responding to local disasters such as fires, and larger-scale disasters, such as tornados and floods. In 53 of the 95 counties in Tennessee, particularly more rural and disadvantaged counties, there is an opportunity for the Red Cross to increase its community presence in order to best prepare communities for disasters before they strike. 

Therefore, Tennessee chapters of the American Red Cross and Americorps VISTA have collaborated to create Red Cross Ready Tennessee, a unique one-year national volunteer opportunity to build support in counties in need. VISTA is a national service program founded by President Kennedy in order to support community agencies in building capacity and ultimately bringing low-income individuals and communities out of poverty.  

The following counties will benefit from the project: Bledsoe, Bradley, Campbell, Carroll, carter, Chester, Claiborne, Clay, Cocke, Cumberland, Decatur, DeKalb, Dickson, Fentress, Giles, Greene, Grundy, Hamilton, Hancock, Hardeman, Hawkins, Henderson, Henry, Hickman, Humphries, Jefferson, Johnson, Lake, Lewis, Loudon, Macon, Marion, McMinn, McNairy, Meigs, Morgan, Overton, Perry, Polk, Putman, Rhea, Roane, Scott, Sequatchie, Smith, Trousdale, Unicoi, Van Buren, Wayne, Weakley, White, and Wilson 

The Red Cross seeks pro-active and independent community organizers who are passionate about serving underprivileged communities to perform the following roles: 

·         Recruit and train local volunteers in currently underserved areas

·         Facilitate emergency assistance to families in need after fires and other natural disasters

·         Coordinate emergency planning with local community and governmental agencies to make the country
          disaster-ready

Volunteers will receive all necessary Red Cross training as well as a VISTA living allowance, health benefits, and an the option of an end-of service Education Award or monetary Stipend in return for one year of full-time volunteer service, with no outside employment.

CONTRACT INSTRUCTOR, Health & Safety Department


Conduct First Aid, CPR, and other courses designed to meet the health and safety needs of the community and area businesses. Promotes and sells first aid and preparedness products as part of the training. Prepares, maintains, and transports instructional materials and equipment such as visual aids, manikins, etc. Prepares accurate course records and addendums.


Must have high school diploma or equivalent, as well as Health and safety teaching experience and/or training. Current Red Cross Instructor certification in Standard First Aid preferred. Valid Drivers License a necessity.


Flexible schedule required. Primary current need is for instructors who can work during business hours. Rate of pay is $10.00/hour. Adherence to established instructor dress code required. Ability to move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Smoke-free working environment.
